Architect and artist David Brodsky (1985) lives and works in Tbilisi. He studied at IUAV University of Venice. Brodsky has participated in both local and international projects and workshops. His architectural practice includes residential design and renovation, small-scale architectural installations, and exhibition design. He is a co-founder of the Tbilisi Urban Image Research Center “Ubani” and a visiting lecturer at the Free University of Tbilisi.

Architect, designer, curator, and researcher Nata Tatunashvili is based between Tbilisi and Paris. She is the co-founder of Ubani — Tbilisi Cityscape Research Center; as well as the founder of NWDS, a multidisciplinary architecture office, and Aea, an independent cultural initiative. She brings 20+ years of architectural practice that inlcude museums, cultural importance buildings, hospitality and residential projects.

The exhibition “Tbilisi – Rising Land” presents an in-depth and critical representation of the city’s geology through three-dimensional handmade models.

Visitors will see works created during a seminar organized last year by “Ubani” and led by Italian architect and theorist Renato Rizzi. These include a handmade orthogonal model of Tbilisi, a model of the Metekhi cliff with exaggerated heights, silicone negatives, photographs, and two panels. One panel displays isometric representations of Tbilisi, while the other features fragments from Nino Haratischwili’s book The Eighth Life (for Brilka). This pairing reflects the project’s central theme - the dialogue between architecture and literature emerging from the same historical and geological landscape.

The landscape model-making workshop took place in September 2025 as part of Ubani’s educational program. It was led by Renato Rizzi along with his assistants Susanna Pishiella, Giorgia Antonioli, and David Brodsky, and involved around 100 local and international students and young professionals.

The Tbilisi Urban Image Research Center “Ubani” is a non-profit organization whose mission is to collect and present knowledge about Tbilisi’s landscape, architecture, and urban environment.

Renato Rizzi is an Italian architect and theorist, a full professor of architectural design at IUAV University of Venice, and a member of the National Academy of St. Luke in Rome. In 2018, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Exhibition partners include: the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, Cinema House, Gravita, ibis Budget Tbilisi Center, IUAV University of Venice, Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, and the Ilia State University Bachelor’s Program in Architecture.

Special thanks to Marsilio Editori (Italian publishing house), the School of Visual Arts, Architecture and Design at the Free University of Tbilisi, Jesse Vogler, and Malkhaz Lekveishvili.
